The first game had just enough action, the second had just barely too much focus on the action and stayed away from the suspense. In my opinion the dead space franchise is way better suspense/thriller than action.

Not a huge step, but enough to notice it wasn't just an expansion pack on the first game. 2 was a step towards being an action game.

But after really thinking about it, as much as I love 2, I honestly feel like 1 is the better game from a story and gameplay perspective. The nods to the original like visiting the ishimura were nice. The story of the game was more defined and felt like it had more purpose. The backtracking any making you feel like you're running in circles for almost no reason and making you feel almost helpless were amazing.Ģ felt like a huge upgrade, the colors were better, the suits were more high tech (which explains the controls being better from a story standpoint). The controls were worse, you felt slow and restricted, but that was intentional and a huge factor in what made the game so great. 1 had way more tension, way more unknown and unexpected.
